Reflection & Productive Struggle
I just attended an AI for Education webinar yesterday "More Than Personalization How to Build AI Experiences that Empower Students". This incorporated CAST, UDL, and intentional design. It confirmed how we need to be deliberate in our design of learning experiences incorporating AI that create pauses for genuine reflection, embrace productive struggle, and focus metacognition. I'm finding that in building student spaces in SchoolAI and working with NotebookLM with our teachers & students, they can help in creating more student ownership and recognition of their thinking. I'd love to continue the conversation about designing for learner agency in this community!

I really relate to this, especially the idea of intentionally designing “pauses” for reflection and productive struggle. One thing I’ve noticed in my own context is that AI can very easily remove struggle entirely if we’re not careful, and then students may produce something polished without actually processing or owning the learning. But when used intentionally, I’ve seen the opposite happen...
I agree, intentional and deliberate building of learning experiences promoting agency makes all of the difference!
