The finalised Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2026 guidance is now published. It comes into force on 1 September 2026, and this year's update introduces specific new expectations that go beyond policy, they require named roles in your school to conduct, document and evidence compliance. Paragraph 171 is the change most schools have not yet fully acted on. It now requires that a review of filtering and monitoring effectiveness is carried out at least once every academic year, led by the SLT member responsible for filtering and monitoring, with the support of the school's designated safeguarding lead and IT support. Schools must check that filtering is working on all internet-connected devices in all relevant locations, and keep a formal record of those checks. This is not a policy update.
